I'm going to start this post by being straightforward with my readers- I do NOT have any pictures of the following events.
After work I picked up Kenzie to head to my house, this is weird in itself because my sister was actually coming out for the night and without Jer- YEA (no offense Jeremy because I love ya)! After getting ready (mainly me trying to decide how to wear jeans without having a muffin top and eventually putting on legging for the elasticity in the waist) we were off to meet Meghan's. The plan was to walk from her house for dinner at the Brewhouse then enjoy the bars the complex has to offer. Unfortunately the Brewhouse had an hour wait and we were hungry, so we decided to go to Baja Billy's where Seebs (of the 4th St. Girls) met up with us and I ordered a side of chicken enchilada for my margarita. The mango one was my favorite. SIDENOTE: I do not recommend their food, there is better Mexican food in Duluth (Hacienda). After 3 pitchers it was time for martinis, Kenzie headed back to TH :(
There weren't very many people at the Red Star so it was easy to find a couch and we sat down for a martini, Laura (of the 4th St. Girls too) and her friend Leon came to join us. I had the pear martini- which I don't recommend it was way too strong tasting. My favorite is still Red Velvet. From there it was off to the Rex (the Old Tap Room- or some I'm told), going there makes me want to say It's Rex Manning day- I hope someone reading this knows what I'm talking about. Andi of the 4th St. Girls came to join us and I did something I don't normally do- I drank beer- it was delicious.
If you know the type of people that hangout at Fitgers you are already imagining the atmosphere- but let me try and set it for you:
The band at the Rex was an eclectic group- the lead singer: an older African American man wearing a cropped black tank top that showed off his solid abs, the guitarist: a plump Spanish man with longer black wavy hair- he was no Enrique, the keyboard player: an old white man wearing a fedora, the bongo player: a Mexican man who let Meghan play with his instruments (weird wood things with beads on them he would use to make beats). All night Meghan was obsessed with wanting to play the bongos and told the band if they needed her to step up she would. While they played a variety of reggae music people with dreads stood in front dancing with their eyes closed putting their arms out and spinning- later in the night I joined in, well dancing not the hippie shuffle as I like to call it. I was definitely the odd one out wearing a black dress, leggings, and black boots, it wasn't the look most people were going for.
I saw Josh Zenner. Never having met him I marched up and confessed that I still laughed about a skiing video he put on the air last winter. Then I told him my Dad knew him, BIG mistake because then I had to tell him my name. I called my Dad this morning to tell him the whole story (we tell each other everything), so hopefully the next time the two are chumming they can have a chuckle at my expense.
Around midnight I got a phone call from my aunt and a guy at the bar in Hayward I had met. She is always trying to set me up and every time she sees this guy, Scott, she brings me up. Last time she told him I said hello (I didn't). The time before that she talked to him for 10 minutes (while I was there) and told him I was single too. When I lived with her in the cities she did this stuff too- the second we'd leave the house she'd be on the prowl for me- I LOVE IT and her too! So when they called last night I learned she had told him about my Harry Potter Halloween costume- embarrassing. He did ask when I'd be in Hayward and told me to call him sometime- however I don't think sometime was on the 2 am trek back to Meghan's. Oh well, whatever guy does finally get me to settle down will have to deal with my flaws.
All in all it was a fun night involving good friends, darts, pool, dancing, reggae, and some local celebrities. Anna and Leah were in the cities, I was bummed I didn't go with them, but glad I got to spend time with Kenzie and Megs, and of course the 4th St. Girls.
